Best Way to Clean a Deep Fryer

For many folks, there is just nothing better than or quite as tasty as some delicious deep fried foods. Apart from the fact that they are rarely listed amongst the healthiest of foods, fried foods are eternal favorites and folks seem to be drawn to them like magnets. Many folks who cannot get enough of deep fried delicacies often decide to have a deep fryer in their own kitchens.

Nevertheless, one of the drawbacks to having a fryer in your home, such as a mini deep fryer or a cool touch deep fryer, is the fact that they are quite messy to clean and to keep clean, spotless and looking sanitary. This is really one of the reasons why many folks choose to get their fix of deep fried foods out at restaurants rather than dealing with the hassle of deep frying oil cooking in the home.

Deep Fryer FoodAs well as the mess that comes along with a deep fryer in terms of grease that gets into the air and clings to just about everything that it comes into contact with, there is also the question of handling and disposing of the oil. With deep fat fryers the deep frying oil has to be disposed of after it has been well-used, in order to make room for fresh oil for the next meal.

The good news is that there are simple tips that can help make the cleaning and maintenance of a fryer in your kitchen a tad easier. These tips will also help make sure that the deep fried foods you make will continue tasting great and will not start to pick up that rancid grease taste that can ruin a great meal. There is nothing worse than serving your guests a mouth watering deep fried meal only to find out that the oil has turned bad and has gone stale.

The first thing you should be aware of when it comes to keeping deep fryers clean is that you do not have to change the oil for deep frying every time that you use the unit. This does help avoid the messiness that is part of the oil removal and disposal process. On the other hand, if you have used the grease to cook foods that have very strong flavors or smells, then it is suggested that you do change the deep frying oil. This will guarantee that your current good choices are not going to be ruined by flavors from previous meals or end up with that rancid seasoning that nobody enjoys.

When it is the right time to change the deep-frying oil so you can enjoy a nice, clean deep fryer, you will want to heat up the unit first. Then let the oil cool off so that it is still warm and liquefied, so that it is easy to pour. You should drain the old oil by carefully pouring it into an old coffee can, or similar type of container.

After that, you can use a spatula to carefully scrape the sides of the fryer to remove any pieces of food and oil that is still clinging to the inside of the unit. Once you have gotten as much oil as possible out with the spatula, you should then use a paper towel to wipe up any additional grease that remains. Once the inside of the fryer is cleaned out and the oil is in the container, you should then seal the can with tape.

Once the oil is out of the way, you can fill the fryer up with warm water, and add a small amount of dish washing liquid that is formulated to cut through grease. Plug the electric deep fryer unit back in and let it heat up fully until the water comes to a boil and allow it to remain boiling for about ten minutes. This process will remove any remaining grease from the inside of the fryer. After allowing the water to boil for ten minutes, unplug the unit and leave it to cool for a few minutes before pouring the water out.

After pouring out the water, run warm water around the inside of the deep fryer to make sure that there is not any dish washing detergent or grease left inside. It is also a good idea to take a bit of baking soda, mixed with warm water to cleanse the exterior of the unit. This combination is very effective at cutting the grease that might have built up on the outside and will leave it sparkling clean.
